Grade-Wise Age Eligibility Breakdown

Based on current trends and board regulations, here is the expected age breakdown for the 2026-27 session. Please note that most schools use March 31, 2026, as the reference date for age calculation.

1. Pre-Primary Years (The Foundation)

The foundational stage is critical for developing motor skills and social cues.

·        Nursery: The child should be 3 years+. Ideally born between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023.

·        LKG (Lower Kindergarten): The child should be 4 years+.

·        UKG (Upper Kindergarten): The child should be 5 years+.

2. Primary School (Grades 1 to 5)

As per the new mandates, the progression follows a strict 6-year-old start for Grade 1.

·        Grade 1: 6 years+

·        Grade 2: 7 years+

·        Grade 3: 8 years+

·        Grade 4: 9 years+

·        Grade 5: 10 years+

3. Middle and Secondary School (Grades 6 to 10)

For higher grades, while age is a factor, the Transfer Certificate (TC) and previous year's marksheet from a recognized board are usually the primary documents.

·        Grade 6: 11 years+

·        Grade 8: 13 years+

·        Grade 10: 15 years+ (Students must be at least 14 years old to sit for the Board Examinations in most states).
